Woodlands are a type of forest. Sunlight has a major effect in woodlands; because of the sunlight, the woodland is divided into four different plant layers: the tree canopy, the shrub layer, the herbaceous and grass layer, and the woodland floor, similar to the Amazon rainforest. The average temperature in a woodland forest is 50o F, with an average rainfall of 30-6- inches of rain per year. Woodlands are also usually made of broadleaf tree types, where the leaf blade is broader than they are thick. Along with broadleaf trees, some of the other plants in a woodland forest are shrubs, mosses, and perennial herbs. The soil these plants grow in is a silty type of soil. There are many different organisms that live in the woodland biome. For example, American Badger, little brown bat, Maple tree and Oak tree.
